Dr. Steve Marsden is one of Edmonton’s most well-known acupuncturists and Naturopathic Doctors and has been in practice here since 2001. He is a big believer in utilizing lifestyle to address health concerns and practices this for both himself and his family. In the short term, to help his patients gain immediate relief, he utilizes his expertise in Chinese herbal medicine, acupuncture, and homeopathy.
In addition to his work as a physician, Dr. Steve Marsden is one of the chief educators of veterinarians worldwide in the use of complementary and alternative therapies. Together with his wife, Dr. Karen Marsden, he founded the Edmonton Holistic Veterinary Clinic (www.edmonton-veterinary.com) in June 2001, and was immediately the focus of extensive media attention due to his combined expertise in both human and animal holistic medicine.
After being awarded his doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine at the National College of Natural Medicine (NCNM, www.ncnm.edu) he went on to receive one of the first Master’s of Science degrees in Oriental Medicine ever to be awarded in North America, as well as board certifications in Chinese herbology, acupuncture and naturopathic medicine. In 2004, he was invited to become a director of the same college, which is a fully accredited and leading educational institution in the United States offering comprehensive training in a diversity of alternative therapies for physicians.
Dr. Steve Marsden has been a key-note speaker for conferences, courses, colleges, and associations spanning five continents, and is co-founder of the College of Integrative Veterinary Therapies (www.civtedu.org), an Australia-based institution offering distance learning programs in integrative medicine for health professionals and the general public. His textbook on natural veterinary medicine, published by Elsevier, has been translated into multiple languages, and is a leading resource worldwide.
In 2009, Dr. Steve Marsden was voted by the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association as their veterinarian of the year. As a naturopathic physician, he has also received several awards acknowledging his contribution to the field. He was appointed by the federal government as one of its advisors in determining the safe practice of veterinary herbal medicine in Canada, and is co-founder with Dr. Karen Marsden of the Natural Path Herb Company, a leading supplier of safe, effective, and high quality herbal preparations to veterinarians and Chinese medical practitioners in Canada, the United States, SE Asia and Australia. In 2010, he was named holistic teacher of the year by the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association.
