About Sarah Hawthorn
I am a Naturopathic Doctor, Registered Acupuncturist, Co-Director of Health In Balance and Proud mama to three little ones who inspire my life and work every day. I have been growing my practice in Cambridge, Ontario since 2009 and loving every second of my work.
I completed my undergraduate honours degree at the University of Guelph in Biomedical Science and Music. I couldn't decide on my major, so I decided to study science and music (jazz saxophone performance 🙂 It was in my fourth year of University when I decided to switch my direction and attend the four year naturopathic program at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine (CCNM) in Toronto. It seemed like a good transition as it combined the art of science and health. During my time at CCNM, I worked at the Sherbourne Health Centre for HIV patients and won a case study award examining mold exposure and patient health. This led to additional training in Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture, Auricular Medicine, Total Body Modification, Pascoe Courses in Germany and treating the pregnant and pediatric population. I love working with families to help create healthy habits and keep everyone healthy through the school year! We even have a special pediatric treatment room at the clinic to make kids feel especially welcome! I am currently studying at the CEDH, to enhance my homeopathic prescribing skills. I enjoy community talks and try to engage with the public as often as I can. I am a regular speaker at the Cambridge Early Years Centre and guest columnist in the informative local publication of 'Holistic Parent’.
Born and raised in Cambridge, Ontario, I grew up with and continue to have strong values that are still deeply instilled in alternative living and wellness. Based on those values, I am now a mother and an entrepreneur who lives the life of cloth diapers, market visits, veggie gardens and grandmas mustard plaster recipe. When I am away from the clinic, I enjoy skating, cooking in the kitchen with my kids, trying new recipes, renovating our century home, rock climbing, going to music festivals, being outside and spending time at our family cottage. I am an adventure seeker at heart, always exploring, travelling and trying new things.
I am a licensed Naturopathic Doctor and Acupuncturist and am registered through CONO (College of Naturopaths of Ontario) and CTCMPAO (College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of Ontario). I am also a member of the Ontario Association of Naturopathic Doctors (OAND) , the Canadian Association of Naturopathic Doctors (CAND), the Ontario Herbalists Association (OHA), the Association of Perinatal Naturopathic Doctors (APND), and the Cambridge Chamber of Commerce. I am also a board member of the Selkirk Liver Society, which is a non-profit for liver transplant equality, near and dear to my heart. Thanks to my wonderful patients and community, Dr. Sarah Hawthorn ND, R.Ac has been voted the #1 Platinum Naturopathic Doctor in the Cambridge Times Readers Choice Awards annually since 2012
