About Sarah Bowler
I am Sarah Bowler, a Naturopathic Doctor in Toronto. I offer general practice Naturopathic Medical care for women, children and families, who need help from an expert in Natural Health. I help people and families become free of illness and to find a greater lightness of being. Together, we find the blocks that have held you back, and the self-love to change them.
I believe...
I believe health is the natural state of the body, and that health doesn't come from a quick-fix pill. I believe the mind and how you treat yourself has a huge impact on the health of your body. I believe health doesnt have to feel like a hardship or a chore; it can feel like the reward you are giving yourself for choosing to live!
My life changed when I was 12 and my father became ill. Hes an intelligent, resourceful man and he began to digest medical information at warp-speed. He learned that wheat and dairy werent good for everyone. He learned that taking food-supplements could be very powerful medicine. He learned that there was a huge community devoted to a greater method of healthcare; one that encourages involvement of the patient in their health, and that seeks to find the cause of disease and overcome it fully.
He learned all of these things. Hence, so did I.
I dreaded each new book he read, because it would translate into a new food I was no longer allowed to eat, or a new supplement/exercise/health-food. At that age, the dietary restrictions and supplement-taking were an inconvenience, and the goading of kids at school who didnt like the smell of my rice-cakes an irritation.
But before I knew it, health and the new paradigm had become my life and my passion.
Through those experiences and my years since, learning and immersing myself in this community, Ive learned what works and what doesnt. Ive learned what you can ask people to change now, and whats better to be changed in the future. And Ive learned that some things might never fully change (Im afraid Ill never completely give up chocolate). So now I see patients in Toronto and North York, sharing what Ive learned from my adolescent years and from my intensive studies.
I was encouraged to become a Doctor from a young age. But I was uncertain what I wanted to do. I thought research in a scientific lab was my future. But the universe had other ideas. It conspired to gently (and then more firmly) prod me into my current career. Theres only so long you can ignore a constant call to arms. Seven years of university and two years of residency later, I am finally here. And now you are reading this.
I love what I do, and I love who I do it with.
Thank you for that, Dad.
Before that...
My undergraduate studies at the University of Birmingham, England was in Natural Sciences, specifically Biology and Biochemistry. This set me up well for the intensive science-based education that is Naturopathic Medicine education. This was followed by a four-year post-graduate Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine that I received at the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine in Phoenix, Arizona.
My relocation to Toronto was to complete a two-year residency at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine. I fell in love with the city in the first few months (despite it being winter) and here I shall happily remain. What a great city we live in!
