About Ramona Charikar
I can’t believe how fortunate I am to have found a career as a Naturopathic Doctor. I was always interested in working in health care, and when I began to learn about Naturopathic Medicine it was like a light bulb went off! The philosophies behind this unique medicine fit perfectly with my ideas of health and wellness. Imagine, a system of medicine that considers the innate wisdom of the body, recognizing that symptoms of illness are a sign of imbalance, rather than something to suppress without finding the root cause. I knew I had found the health care profession I belonged it.
I completed my undergraduate degree at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario in 2002, graduating with a Bachelor of Science Honors degree in Biology. I then headed straight to Toronto to study Naturopathic Medicine at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine. One of my most memorable experiences was a clinical rotation I completed at a community health center in Toronto, working with patients that could not afford Naturopathic Medicine. It was very rewarding to be able to see the hope that was inspired in these patients, and to see how even small changes can lead to significant results.
What I love about Naturopathic Medicine is that it allows me to connect one on one with my patients, building a relationship that allows them to feel heard without being judged. My role is to educate my patients about what is going on in their body and why, and empower them to take an active role in their health. Nothing makes me happier than when a patient tells me Naturopathic Medicine has improved their health. My passion for Naturopathic Medicine has grown through observing the amazing results that my patients have achieved, allowing me to experience the tremendous power of Naturopathic Medicine. Even small changes have led to significant results and have empowered my patients to continue to work towards their health and lifestyle goals.
In my free time I love to by physically active because it keeps my mind and body in balance. I can often be found at the gym, and in the summer I’m outside soaking up the sun, hiking, and exploring all that Calgary has to offer with my friends and family.
