My Approach To Medicine
My Approach to Medicine could be summarized as: To practice as a good generalist using patient centred approach and the IFM model of care. IHP Cover Story Interview (April-May 2013)
1. Integrative & Functional Medicine Model: My model of care is of Integrative and Functional Medicine, implementing evidence based natural medical alternatives when indicated, in addition to enhancing function (hence functional medicine) by understanding physiopathology and treating mechanism(s) of disease processes, before they are pathological.
2. Patient Centred Medicine (versus Diseased Centred) : Medicine should be wholistic yet, individualized & personalized, every case and every patient is unique, unlike the Disease Centred model of conventional medicine the Patient centred (Whole Health) approach takes into consideration issues that may impact ones overall whole health and wellness and therefore may have a direct or even indirect effect on their ability to cope with certain illnesses or disease processes.
You treat a disease, you win, you lose. You treat a person, I guarantee you, youll win, no matter what the outcome. Dr. Patch Adams, MD
3. Primary Care-Generalist Approach (versus Specialist Approach): The human body is the most intriguing biological entity there is, composed of many organ systems, subsystems, tissues, cells, particles and sub particles. Furthermore, If you zoom into one area, you might miss the big picture, This reductionistic model of care, is a serious shortcoming, in todays health care, currently we have many specialists and shrinking population of general practitioners. If someone has an hormonal issue they are referred to an endocrinologist, if a patient has a stomach concern, they are referred to a gastroenterologist etc. In my opinion we need more holistic generalists that assess the entire patient as a whole, connect the dots between various systems , and treat mechanism(s) of disease(s).
