About Melissa Howe
It is my goal to understand you and your health care needs. By understanding you, I can then provide appropriate support, education, empowerment, and Naturopathic treatments which will dramatically improve your ability to achieve your optimal physical, mental, emotional and spiritual potential."
With over 20 years in the health care field, Melissa Howe runs her practice based on a simple principle: a deep respect and compassion for each individuals unique experience and a desire to use her skills to help in the best possible way.
A registered nurse with extensive experience in labor and delivery, as well as several other areas, Melissa became aware of a conflict between her instincts and what allopathic medicine prescribed. The symptoms of illnesses were often all that were being treated with medications, rather than the cause. This often led to a suppression of symptoms and further complications of the existing or underlying condition as well as a dependence on medications long term. This combined with some of her own health issues, led her to The Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine (CCNM).
As a patient at the Naturopathic College Clinic, she was treated for severe eczema, allergies, asthma, chronic reoccurring colds and flus, and fatigue. A short time later, feeling the benefits of Naturopathic treatment, she became a student herself. She graduated from their full time program in '99, which included over 4,000 hours of classroom training and supervised clinical experience during an extended four year period.
Having completed this program, and passing the external Naturopathic Physicians Licensing Examinations and provincial examinations, she qualified as a registered Naturopathic Doctor with the Board of Directors of Drugless Therapy Naturopathy. Melissa Howe is also a member of The Canadian Association of Naturopathic Doctors, Naturopathic Doctors Ontario, The College of Nurses, and Bowenwork Canada Registry. Melissa continually enhances her qualifications and understanding in this ever-growing field, through the CCNM and OAND's continuing educaton programs, The Academy of International Bioenergetic Sciences, The Bowen Institute, The Bowen Therapy Academy of Australia, L'Académie Internationale des Méthods Thérapeutiques Contemporaines, and The International Society of Homotoxicology, to name but a few. As a Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine, she is trained and licensed in the healing arts and science of:
