About Marika Geis
Starting out I had no idea that I would train to become a Naturopathic Doctor, much less know what Naturopathic Medicine was. I did however, have a clear idea of the values I hoped my chosen career would one day fulfill. I knew that I wanted a profession that could impact individuals and their communities in a profound way. I knew that I wanted to be part of something that allowed the greatest opportunity for learning and personal growth, and to connect with those I wished to serve. Several years living in the Rockies helped solidify my values regarding environmental stewardship, in that if we took care of Mother Earth, she would in turn take care of us. My own health concerns in my early 20’s shone a light on the responsibility each of us must take for our own well-being; if I didn’t give my body the basics of what it needed in order to be well, no amount of medication was going to work simply because it would not have addressed the cause. Lastly, I knew from a life peppered with travel to developing countries that there were several creative ways to approach a problem, and that there was room for all.
I never in a million years thought I would be lucky enough to find a career that embodied each of these values.
Since then I have had the good fortune to collaborate with a dedicated, dauntless, and loyal community, open to exploring a novel approach to health care. My ongoing experiences with these people shaped my practice into one that addresses a wide range of concerns. Family health care though, is where I’ve found Naturopathic Medicine to have the greatest impact on our communities. This entails pre-conception care, fertility, perinatal care, pediatrics, & women’s health and stress syndromes (digestion, immunity fatigue, and pain complexes). Drawing from a unique array of Clinical Nutrition, Botanical Therapy, Hydrotherapy, Traditional Chinese Medicine, and diet and lifestyle counselling, we are able (together) to tailor your treatment plan according to your individual needs. With the goal of restoring balance, independence, and the ability to respond to the ever changing demands of this modern day life.
