Dr. Doran is a pioneer in the area of Naturopathic Pregnancy care in Ontario and has much experience working with families on their journey with fertility, pregnancy, birth and the newly postpartum. She is the past Medical Director of the National Clearnet/ Telus Corporate Wellness Center with clinics in Vancouver and Toronto she is a past board of directors member of Choices Childbirth and doula services, a Durham region prenatal resource group.

Lisa Doran ND believes that healthy birth advocacy has an important role in health promotion and disease prevention for both mother and baby. She has worked with birthing families for 18 years as an educator, an advocate, as a doula, and as a Naturopathic Doctor. Dr. Doran has a unique practice and attends births as a doula and naturopathic doctor and provides services to new families such as breastfeeding support, post-partum depression support, and instruction on newborn development and care.

She is the author of the book Bearing Witness Childbirth Stories Told by Doulas published by Fox Womens Books as well as The Textbook of Maternal Based Naturopathic Care which was used in her third year obstetrics course at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine, and is also a contributor as a professional reference to the book “A Woman’s Book of Healing Herbs” published by Rodale Press as well as “Treat the Cause” by Peter Papadogianis N.D. Lisa has also published articles in Viva Magazine, Midwifery Today Journal , THE PULSE Naturopathic Newsletter as well as ND news and Reviews.

Dr. Doran came to Naturopathic Medicine through her own struggles with Endometriosis in her early 20’s. Lisa was told as a young woman that she would probably never have children because of the severity of her Endo. This devestating news lead Lisa to try surgery and medication without satisfactory results. Lisa was fortunate enough to have the guidance of a wonderful GP who was open minded enough to suggest that within the mainstream system of medicine, besides more surgery and stronger drugs, there really wasn’t a lot that could be offered to treat the symptoms she was experiencing and give her hope for the family she knew someday she wanted. Her GP referred her to a local Naturopathic Doctor and after 9 months of working with this ND and making some enormous changes in her lifestyle and health, Lisa was symptom free, off of all medication and was astonishing her gynecologist with her recovery. Lisa went on to conceive and deliver three healthy babies and is thrilled that she is surrounded by her children as they grow up. Lisa maintains her very healthy and active lifestyle and 20 years later her Endometriosis remains in remission.

Lisa Doran’s personal philosophy is getting back to the basics with health: Choices in health care, good food, good water, fresh air, exercise, stress management, and personal fulfillment. Lisa Doran lives with her partner of 19 years and their three homebirthed and growing sons ( ages 16, 13 and 9 ) and balances her busy professional life with her joy in mothering, her love of the outdoors, urban farming, bread baking, celtic-fiddling and fiber arts.
