About Lisa Clements
I grew up in small-town Ontario and moved to this area to complete my undergraduate degree at the University of Guelph. It was there that I was introduced to the amazing power of food as medicine. Food and its nutrients are at the foundation of health. Just like a car can’t run without gas and oil, life can’t continue without adequate nourishment. I’m convinced that our bodies are the most intricate and amazing machines on the planet. The standard North American diet of today is drastically different from the food of years past, and our lifestyles have become more and more sedentary. Incredibly, despite these stressors, our bodies continue to run. But do they run as well as they could? Do you feel as well as you should?
I had always been interested in pursuing a career in health care but did not know to what capacity. The first time I learned about naturopathic medicine and its principles, I was sure that this is what I wanted to be doing for my professional life. Put simply, they are principles that just make sense: find the root cause, treat the individual, cooperate with nature, empower and motivate through educating.
I think it’s impossible to be a Naturopathic Doctor and not have your work spill over into your personal life, but in a very positive way. I do my best to promote health at work and at home. Since healthy eating is extremely important to me, I prefer to purchase most of my vegetables from CSA farms or farmer’s markets, which means that I do my best to eat locally and organic. I’m also very active and spend lots of time either cycling, climbing or running.
I really enjoy practicing in a smaller community where I have the opportunity to treat complete families and patients of all ages. I have had experience treating everyone from infants to seniors and have seen conditions ranging from stress and insomnia to cancer and everything in between. That said, I have a particular interest in women’s health and digestive concerns.
