About Kim Bretz
Kim Bretz is a naturopathic doctor, founder and clinic director of Fundamentals of Health, in Waterloo, Ontario. Upon graduating from the University of Guelph in Biology, she entered the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine (CCNM), graduating in 2001. She returned to Kitchener Waterloo and has worked in an interprofessional setting ever since – working with MDs, massage therapists, pharmacists, osteopaths, chiropractors and other healthcare providers.
After consulting, teaching gastrointestinal physiology at the Canadian College of Massage and Hydrotherapy, lecturing at universities, running continuing education programs for NDs, MDs, pharmacists and dieticians and working with patients for over 15 years in the area of gut health and the microbiota, this area has become a passion for her (the kind where you read research articles while drying your hair because it’s fun).
From testing options and diagnostics, dietary programs, gut healing, nutrient replenishment, probiotics and prebiotics she works with numerous areas of digestive health. In addition, she is able to prescribe bio-identical hormones and thyroid for her women’s health patients.
She was elected to the College of Naturopaths of Ontario (CONO), as of 2015 and sits on the executive committee, as well as the Inquires, Complaints and Reports Committee. She also teaches a third year course at the University of Waterloo, Pharmacy School in the area of CAM care and inter-professionalism. She was also on the advisory board for Ferring Pharmaceuticals’ natural health care products and is the past-president of the University of Guelph College of Biological Science Alumni Association.
