About Katie Weststrate
Katie has always been interested in the way things work, and the relationship between our external environment and our internal physical, mental, emotional, and/or spiritual state. This interest led her to pursue an honours degree in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Guelph, followed by an exploration into health from a more holistic perspective and designation as a Registered Holistic Nutritionist. Prior to studying at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine (CCNM), Katie was privileged to work as a health and nutrition educator in Malawi, Africa, an amazing experience which further enhanced her interest in community and global health, and her belief in the ability of education and awareness to motivate and empower change.
Since graduating from CCNM, Katie has continued to explore both individual and community health from an integrative and holistic perspective, studying Sivananda yoga teachings in India, and completing a Masters of Science in Community Health, Addictions and Mental Health at the University of Toronto. Areas of study and interest include mind-body medicine, focusing on image, identity, food, eating and exercise addiction; behaviour change and use of auricular acupuncture (the NADA protocol) for substance abuse and detoxification.
As a Naturopathic Doctor, Katie resonates strongly with the World Health Organizations definition of health as a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease. She has an ecclectic practice, working with people of all ages to support healing and the achievement of optimal wellness. Katie welcomes all questions about Naturopathic medicine and yoga, and is happy to share what she's learned in terms of holistic health, with you.
