About Katie DeGroot
I am an Alberta-licensed ND who also holds a Master’s of Science in Nutrition. I offer nutritionally focused care and have a special interest in digestive issues and supportive mental health care.
I grew up in Kamloops, BC and after graduating high school, studied Ecology and Environmental Biology at Thompson Rivers University (TRU). While at TRU, I started volunteering with St John Ambulance Division 518 as a Medical First Responder, providing first aid coverage at community events.
My experiences with St John Ambulance prompted me to consider a career in medicine, but my studies in ecology and environmental biology swayed me to seek a holistic approach so I completed a dual-degree program at the National University of Natural Medicine, in Portland, Oregon, USA, obtaining both a Masters of Science in Nutrition and a Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine.
After graduating with honours in 2017, I moved to the Cariboo region of BC and began practicing as a Naturopathic Doctor in the towns of Williams Lake and 100 Mile House.
After 3 years in the Cariboo, my partner and I (and our cat) relocated to Southern Alberta in the summer of 2020 to be closer to family. Now in Lethbridge, I am excited to begin practicing at The Medicine Tree and offering high quality, nutritionally-focused care to residents of Lethbridge and beyond!
I am excited to work both with people seeking to improve their health and with people experiencing health challenges seeking to improve their quality of life and wellbeing. As a Naturopathic Doctor, I try to assess the underlying reason(s) for a person’s health concerns, and then find ways to help their body function better so that those health concerns don’t happen in the first place – treating the cause, if you will.
