About Jennifer Forgeron

I always knew that I wanted to be a doctor. This is why I earned my Honours Bachelor of Science majoring in Pre-veterinary medicine at the University of British Colombia in Vancouver. However in my final year of study at UBC, I had an “aha” moment when I noticed an advertisement in the school newspaper for a career in naturopathic medicine; I didn’t know that I could train to be a doctor who treats with natural medicines! I knew that this was what I was meant to do and in 2001, I graduated at the top of my class from The Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in Toronto. As a licensed naturopathic doctor, I operated a successful referral-based practice in Toronto for 14 years before moving back home to Halifax in 2015, which is where my heart and my family are.

I am passionate about finding the root cause of disease. It is easy to suppress or make a symptom disappear with any type of medicine, but what happens when you stop taking this medicine? Do these symptoms return? I want to understand how to get my patients well from a curative perspective and to engage the body

in the healing process, so that ultimately we don’t have to always rely on external medicines to be well. This is true healing. I treat people, not their symptoms. I build relationships with my patients. I individualize my treatments. I treat the whole body – physical, mental, emotional, spiritual. I am passionate about teaching how our body works so that my patients understand why they feel the way they do and how they can be part of their healing process. And I am always learning.

My treatments blend science with nature, and aim to bring balance back to the body using a combination of diet, natural medicines and lifestyle modifications. In naturopathic medical school, we train extensively in Clinical Nutrition, Botanical Medicine, Homeopathic Medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine including Acupuncture, Counselling and certain forms of bodywork; we also learn about conventional medical treatments, laboratory diagnosis and clinical diagnosis. I have additional training in Intravenous nutritional therapy, Bowen Therapy, Craniosacral Therapy, and Epigenetics and Gene Mutations. In particular, I am passionate about using Biotherapeutic Drainage which is a process that removes toxic accumulations that interfere with cellular balance, functioning and nourishment. As a primary care doctor, I treat all ages and all health issues but I do have a special interest in digestive disorders, hormone imbalances, stress-related health issues, depression, chronic fatigue, heavy metal toxicity, autoimmune and degenerative diseases, cancer co-treatment, and difficult cases!

When I ‘m not treating patients, I find my balance by spending time in nature with my family, playing competitive sports, experimenting in the kitchen, and reading all that I can about helping the body to heal.
