About Jacqueline Hermanson
Dr. Jacqueline Hermanson, ND, is a licensed naturopathic physician with an interest in women’s health and integrative cancer care. Dr. Hermanson has ten years of post-secondary education, starting with her pre-medical studies at the University of Victoria and finishing with her Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine at the Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine. In her post-secondary studies, Dr. Hermanson had a special interest in science, global health, politics, and applied ethics. She studied international politics, and aboriginal and environmental law, with a vision of building and nurturing healthy, sustainable communities.
Dr. Hermanson is passionate about helping others find peace, justice and purpose in their lives. It wasn’t until Dr. Hermanson was faced with her own personal health challenges that she needed to expand upon the traditional western medical model of treatment. She began to research holistic ways of healing such as acupuncture, herbal medicine, clinical nutrition, yoga, meditation and mindfulness, and found a model of healthcare that was more aligned with her values, philosophy, and life-style. When Dr. Hermanson experienced long-lasting results with naturopathic treatment, her goal of helping others experience similar results changed from pursuing a career in law, to pursuing a lifelong commitment to naturopathic medicine.
What is most inspiring to Dr. Hermanson is not what she uses to treat her patients, but how she treats her patients. The most powerful aspects of naturopathic medicine lie in the foundations of treating the whole person: mentally, emotionally, physically, spiritually. Dr. Hermanson believes it’s fundamental to treat the root cause of illness, and not just palliate symptoms with pharmaceuticals or supplements. She firmly believes in the collaboration of all health care providers, and believes that integrating both western and naturopathic medical treatments will result in optimal, long-lasting outcomes for the patient.
She holds certifications in Acupuncture, Intravenous (IV) Nutrient Therapy and Pharmaceutical Prescriptions. Dr. Hermanson is a member in good standing with the College of Naturopathic Physicians of British Columbia (CNPBC), British Columbia Naturopathic Association (BCNA), and the Canadian Association of Naturopathic Doctors (CAND).
Dr. Hermanson completed internships with Natural Doctors International in Nicaragua, Positive Living B.C., and Friends For Life in Vancouver, where she provided medical care to those living with HIV/Aids and cancer. She maintains a strong interest providing medical care overseas, where her initial passion of building strong and healthy communities remains a goal of hers.
