About Barbara McKinstry
As a tenatiously inquisitive teenager in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan Barbara became aware of the confines of the health care options that were available. Her B.A. degree confirmed her conclusion that medical research was not simply science, but restricted by politics and economics. Because typical medical treatments were based on this research, then, logically there were politically or economically induced gaps in the treatments available. Her personal quest for alternative health care systems began.
After moving to Kitchener, Ontario in the mid seventies with her husband and young daughter, she continued her investigation. Having a child's health to consider was a tremendous impetus to seek out all options, and as manager of a natural food store, she was in an ideal position to ask questions and gather information. She trained as a Shiatsu Therapist and opened a practice; but this too did not satisfy her quest. It was at this time she discovered the potential of Homeopathy. Now with a second child Barbara began successfully treating both daughters for various ailments with homeopathy, rather than use allopathy.
In 1984 Barbara enrolled in the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine. She was in the second class! Over four years, she and her classmates and their teachers literally blazed a trail into Canadian medical history. She was graduated, received her Ontario licence, and began practising as a Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine in 1988 in Guelph, Ontario. But for the next three years she continued formal post graduate training in Homeopathy with one of Canada's most skilled Homeopaths - Andre Saine of Montreal, culminating in passing the board exams of the Canadian Academy of Homeopathy to become a fellow of the Academy.
Like any true professional, her learning has continued. She and a group of collegues have affiliated themselves with an exceptionally talented leading edge group of homeopaths from Bombay who come to North America several times a year for five day workshops. Through these trainings and her continued pursuit of results with her clients, Barbara's skill level is constantly increasing.
Today, Barbara endorses a health team approach to personal health care. She believes each of us would benefit by having a group of people involved in our personal health. Barbara's team for example includes an allopathic medical doctor, a chiropractor, a massage therapist, a homeopathic doctor, a psychotherapist, an osteopath, an energy and chakra balancer, and a Pilates trainer.
